The Study Skills Proficiency Programme
Posted on 26th August 2021
We mentor students- young people and adult students- by listening to their needs, setting realistic and achievable goals and providing guidance to help them achieve their goals.
I have been a student many times over and I am also a tutor/coach and mentor. Most of my sessions were carried out in person and now all are delivered on-line. I have tutored for over 12 years and it has been a privilege and a rewarding experience tutoring both primary and secondary pupils and coaching GCSE and ‘A’ level students.
I decided to take my wealth of experience and write a structured on-line ‘Study Skills Proficiency Course’ accessible to all who are embarking on a study programme. The intention is to share what I have learnt, so that you can benefit by applying tools to help you attain your goals.
This short course will teach you how to study effectively and give you strategies to plan for exams and write coursework. It can be delivered as a one to one session or purchased as an online course to complete as a self-study programme.
Studying can be stressful at the best of times. Some people find it a challenge while others may find it enjoyable. Whichever category you fit into, there will be a level of stress involved. This course will assist you in managing your stress level, which is different from person to person.
Did you know?
According to https://www.nhs.uk
"In life, there's always a solution to a problem," says Professor Cary Cooper, an occupational health expert at the University of Lancaster.
"Not taking control of the situation and doing nothing will only make your problems worse."
He says the keys to good stress management are building emotional strength, being in control of your situation, having a good social network, and adopting a positive outlook.
On completion of the course, the intended outcome is that you should be able to:
1. Manage you time more effectively.
2. Outline clearly what your intended goals are.
3. Work more effectively to achieving your goal.
4. Reduce your stress levels and/or be able to manage them.
5. Become more skilled in time management.
6. Learn how to study and structure your work.
Through effective planning, discipline and dogged determination you can achieve the results you deserve.
I look forward to launching this course soon!
